Refurbishment of a 1970's third floor apartment in Beaulieu-sur-mer, France. Opening up the views across the rooms, the Mediterranean is brought into the living space through two dark oak lacquered volumes, containing services, creating thresholds between the rooms and visual connections. Reuse is key to assure nothing goes to waste and the memory of the space is maintained.
The natural qualities of the landscape are reflected in the materials used, from the existing marble floor preserved and reused in the bathroom, to the liquid stained & lacquered oak joinery patterns, to the smell of the pine timber on the floor.
